DANIEL LOUIS MEILI
A traveller with firm roots
Daniel has set foot on every continent, marvelled and learned along the way, and has always returned enriched – although financially reduced each time.
Basel is his home, the Alemannic his linguistic origin, and the diverse three-country region of Switzerland – France – Germany his cultural area.
At 12, Daniel cycled alone to Zurich, at 13 he travelled alone to Marseille, at 15 he attended the Olympic Games in Montreal, at 17 he glided on cross-country skis along the east coast of Greenland over long mountain ridges and frozen fjords, at 19 he moved from island to island in the Azores, at 21 he hiked along the Sassel and Temple fjords on Spitsbergen/Svalbard, at 28 he travelled as a ‘hunter’ through grass-green Mongolia and the dusty Gobi Desert, and at 33 he explored Antarctica, from Cape Adare to the Lemaire Channel.
Between these cornerstones, he travelled everything that was geographically and financially within his reach (and sometimes really challenging, for example the march through Pakistan, from Swat to Hunza Valley).
