Today we only get as far as Azov, once the north-easternmost polis of the Hellenes … Today it is a pleasant place at the mouth of the Don on the Sea of Azov, with a large port and transhipment infrastructure in the western part of the city. Lena still has to obtain confirmation that we can actually sail through to Kerch at the entrance to the Black Sea (which, given the current situation with the conflict in neighbouring Ukraine, would be nothing short of a miracle for me).

There are two sailing clubs here, and somehow we ended up with Nicolay, an experienced and empathetic teacher and sailing coach. He, in turn, discovered an extremely talented sailor, “shaped” him and took him all the way to the Olympic Games: Alexey! While Nicolaj took care of the marina and our fuel supply (pictured here with his son, who is also named Nicolaj), Lena and I enjoyed the amenities and trendiest restaurant complex in Azov with Alexey.
