Following Manos’ recommendation, I take a short trip to Akri, the smallest permanently inhabited island in Greece: around 40 inhabitants, no school, but two restaurants (for day trippers and owners of small yachts). And Manos was right: crystal clear water, an underwater world at its finest, seemingly untouched. FANTASTIC!
I arrive early. I can look around in peace. I go to the “beach” and splash around a bit. I sleep a little. And when I return, there are already more boats at the quay, maybe 10 in total, mostly sailors. Next to me are Levtaris and his Mirada, and Dad’s fancy motor yacht. (Where our boys borrow their father’s car, here it’s a nice yacht …)
As we chat, I quickly realise that the two of them are well aware of the privilege of being able to travel this way. And they’re enjoying it! – Who can blame them?
