The weather is good, the sea is clear, so I can navigate the islands without any problems. Intuitively, I decide to moor in the harbour of Degerby on the island of Föglö in the archipelago of Aaland. Here, too, people are busily working on the opening of the season; hotels and bungalows are being cleaned up, the last woodwork and painting is underway.
I have initially entered the ‘wrong’ harbour and switch over to the mooring next to the local ferry. Again I am the only one, so bizarre: a single boat where there would be room for 20 to 30… Then I go to the only local shop, introduce myself and get some information, visit the local museum (open, but no one present) and stroll through the small village. Then I notice a large map at the roadside and discover a fitness track at the edge of the forest, grab my folding bike, ride there and discover clever training equipment formed from mighty tree trunks. Immediately I start my alternative workout – I love to challenge myself (as if riding the cool sea every day and exploring a new place by bike weren’t enough).
Then the sun dips, it gets cool again and it’s quick: I can shower in the school building next door, then there’s dinner, and I climb into my tent cabin to settle in. I fall asleep quickly, as usual.
