The weather is beautiful, Mediterranean, pleasant, but the swell is still significant. Martina is not comfortable with it. Nevertheless, we set off, want to continue – and ‘hop’ over to Aguilas. In less than an hour we are in another world.
Here in Aguilas we feel at home. The location, the harbour, the people, everything is just right.
As soon as we arrive, we explore the city, climb from one hill to the next, chat through the small-scale, funny-looking old town, enjoy the palm-fringed parks, and – as the day draws to a close – we arrive along the beach at a mega-futuristic-looking new culture and congress centre.
It stands somewhat abandoned; we learn that this centre should have been a magnet for this coastal town – had Corona (or the fear of it) not passed by. In short: this magnificent building is mourning and hoping for better days. And with it, the people here.
Yes, travelling as a couple has consequences… We have to find each other at every turn, coordinate… Martina wants to go there, I want to go there… Humour helps (here too). On the other hand, with her help I get to know completely new, different people (groups) and thus new stories that are also exciting!
